NCVA Recipients

The North Carolina Veterans Administration award students the NCVA scholarship. This scholarship is for 8 semesters which must be used within 6 years from the date of award. For students that are attending Graduate studies, the scholarship will pay the lessor charge, Undergraduate rate or Graduate charge.

If student has additional scholarship or grant aid covering cost of attendance, the NCVA scholarship shall be reduced so the sum of all grant and scholarship aid does not exceed the cost of attendance for the State educational institution at which the student is enrolled.

The institution will, with proper permission from student, grant access to student’s academic records to the North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs prescribed manner requested by such agency. To keep the scholarship award, you must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.


Students must submit, Permission for access to student records (see below). If a signed copy by student is not attached to your copy of award, please submit the completed form to ECU Student Accounting Office at studentbilling@ecu.edu.

The Mandatory Fees that NCVA will cover include:

  • Educational and Technology Fee
  • Safety and Security Fee
  • Health Service Fee
  • University Fees
  • Remedial Math (if applicable)
  • Clinical Assessment Fee (If applicable)
  • College of Engineering and Technology Fee (if applicable)
  • Private Music Lessons (if applicable)
  • Nursing Course Fee (if applicable)
  • Certain KINE Courses (if applicable)

Please note that you may not receive both NCVA and CH 33 at the same time.

The student is responsible for any balance remaining on their student account and must be paid by 5:00PM on schedule cancellation day.

All NCVA Payments will be placed on your account prior to Schedule Cancellation.

If you do not plan on using your NCVA for a particular semester or plan on utilizing CH 33 benefits, please contact our office and inform us that you will not be using NCVA for the upcoming semester.

If you chose to transfer to another school, please contact NCVA and inform them of you intent to transfer.

If you are receiving a room and board allowance with your scholarship, you will still receive the allowance if you choose to live off campus. The Room and Board allowance will pay for Room and Board up to a max amount set by NCVA. This amount can change per year.

NCVA will only pay for the Fall and Spring semesters, summer semesters are not eligible for the NCVA scholarship.
