August 2024 Update Frequently Asked Questions

Why is ECU printing financial aid refund checks and distributing them in person?

The Pirate Port App Tuition Statements, 1098-T Statements & Payments is currently unavailable.

This impacts our ability to use the system for disbursement of financial aid refund checks. To get financial aid to students as quickly as possible, the University printed checks for student pick up.

Refund checks are being printed and distributed Aug. 26-27, 2024. You will receive a text message when your check is ready.

All checks not picked up by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, will be mailed to the address on file.

Where can I pick up my financial aid refund check?

If you received a text message on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, then your check is available at the ECU Cashier’s Office.

The campus address is G120 Old Cafeteria Complex, located on the main campus.

I am a remote learner and unable to get to campus by Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, what happens to my check? How will I get it?

All checks not picked up by Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at 7 p.m. will be mailed on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, via US Postal Service to the address on file.

What do I need to pick up my check?

Your ECU 1Card or government issued photo ID (for example: driver’s license or passport) is needed to pick up your financial aid refund check.

1Card is strongly preferred and will result in faster pick-up time. If you do not have your 1Card, you must provide a valid government issued photo ID along with your Banner ID number which can be found through Pirate Port.

What if I do not have my 1card, can I pick up my financial aid refund check?

If you do not have a 1Card, you may use your valid government issued photo ID as identification.

What if I do not pick my check up before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27?

All checks not picked up before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, will be mailed to the address on file.

How do I know if I have a check available for pick-up?

Each student who has a financial aid check ready for pick up received a text message from the university on Aug. 24, 2024.

If I did not receive a text message about a financial aid refund check available, when will my financial aid refund be available?

The Financial Aid office continues to package aid each business day, and a communication will be sent to you once a refund is available.

I picked up my check, now what do I do?

You should deposit the check with the bank or credit union you originally indicated on your direct deposit/e-refund submission where you initially wanted the funds to be deposited.

How do you deposit a check?

There are several ways to deposit a check and options available to you will be based on your selected bank or credit union. Your financial institution may offer a mobile deposit option in its app. You can contact your bank or credit union for more information on how to make a deposit.

What if I do not have a bank account?

You may visit a Wells Fargo branch to cash the check with appropriate identification. However, we urge students not to leave a bank with large sums of cash. Many banks in the Greenville area have “student account” options and we urge you to explore those options.

Below is an alphabetical sample of financial institutions with branches in Greenville. We do not recommend a particular financial institution:

  • First Citizens Bank
  • PNC Bank
  • Southern Bank
  • State Employees’ Credit Union
  • TowneBank
  • Truist Bank
  • Wells Fargo

What if my bank does not have a local branch for me to physically visit to deposit?

Your financial institution may offer a mobile deposit option as an app, or you may visit a Wells Fargo branch to cash the check with appropriate identification.

Here are a list of Greenville Wells Fargo branches.

If I have a Parents plus loan, will my check be available for pick up to me?

Your parent would have selected on their PLUS application if the refund was to be delivered to the student or to the parent. If the refund was directed to you, then yes, those funds may be included in your check.

If the refund was directed to the parent, then the check will be mailed to them and not available to you for pick up.

How do I pay my bill?

Payment Options

I have not paid my ECU bill in full for Fall 2024, is ECU going to cancel my schedule?

No, due to the Pirate Port app issues, ECU will not have a final schedule cancellation for Fall 2024.

Should I continue to pay my bill?

Yes, the balance of your bill is still owed to the University and will prevent future term registration if the bill is not satisfied by Oct. 31, 2024.
